St. James Plantation Celebrates Founder’s Day

by Jessica Wright on July 20, 2009

SOUTHPORT, N.C. – The town of St. James marked a 10-year milestone on July 1, celebrating its incorporation of the town. There were a host of events for residents and guests, which included the St. James Open tennis championship, The Embers street dance party, a black-tie dinner cruise on the Intracoastal Waterway, a parade down St. James drive (that many say was the best ever!), followed by an all-American hometown picnic, the Artisan’s plein air art exhibit at the marina, a golf tournament, a children’s swim party, a 17-piece big band concert at the Woodlands Park amphitheatre, an ice cream social at the fire department, and to top it all off, a fantastic fireworks display.

Town Mayor Shelley Lesher says, “From all of us who have participated in the growth of our town, it has been a privilege and a joy. We extend our deepest thanks to all who had the foresight to work for our incorporation and we pledge our continuing commitment to a vibrant community.”

It was really a sight to see – the entire town, 1,800 plus – coming together to “toast” the great place they call home. Happy 10th, Town of St. James! Here’s to many more happy birthday celebrations!
