Despite a challenging economy, The Greenbrier Sporting Club experienced a record-breaking weekend in real estate sales for January, a month typically slow in land transactions. The private residential community, located on the grounds of The Greenbrier, contracted $4.1 million in real estate over the course of a single weekend, January 22-24. A total of 11 properties, with an overall value of $7,685,000, are pending or have closed since January 1, 2010.

“The biggest buying factors continue to be the unparalleled value found here and the incredible excitement that continues to build at the resort,” says John Klemish, principal and broker in charge at The Greenbrier Sporting Club. “We believe lowering our membership initiation from $140,000 to $100,000 was also instrumental in achieving this level of success.”

The Greenbrier has also seen its own jump in activity for the first month in 2010 with daily calls and reservations for social visits up over 400% compared to the same time in 2009 while group room sales are on pace to more than double group reservations from last year.

“We are setting new standards for both private residential communities and luxury resorts,” says Jim Justice, chairman and owner of The Greenbrier and Greenbrier Sporting Club. “With the addition of Prime 44 West, The Greenbrier Classic and the new 80,000-square-foot underground entertainment venue, featuring an elegant Monte Carlo-style casino, restaurants and upscale designer boutiques, we have created even more reasons to visit the resort. The excitement about everything happening here is simply phenomenal.”

The Greenbrier Sporting Club also saw a strong finish at the end of 2009 with 20 homes and/or homesites closed within a six-month time frame.

“The Greenbrier Sporting Club is one of the few developments in the United States being infused with millions of dollars,” says Klemish. “While other residential developments are faltering, we have financial stability and this is a huge contributor to our success. Many families are rediscovering that the place to be is The Greenbrier and if someone wants to own a part of The Greenbrier legacy, the time is now.”

Amelia Island, FL – Gooding & Company, the internationally recognized auction house, is hosting a vintage automobile auction at Amelia Island Plantation—a AAA Four Diamond resort property located in northeast Florida. The one-day auction will take place on Friday, March 12 at 5 p.m.

The auction’s main attraction is the 1931 Voisin C20 “Mylord” Demi-Berline, Best of Show winner of the 2009 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, which is expected to sell for more than $2.5 Million. Known internationally for being one of the most sensational classics from the 1930s, the unique C20 is recognized as a marvelous tribute to the design and engineering genius of Gabriel Voisin. It is powered by one of only five extraordinarily intricate Voisin 12-cylinder sleeve valve engines known to have been built, and the interior draws heavily from Gabriel Voisin’s aviation background with a myriad of controls and exposed mechanical components. Other star cars being offered in the auction include a 1963 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 Roadster, valued between $129,000 – $150,000, and a stunning light blue 1937 Peugeot 402 Darl’Mat Roadster valued between $650,000 – $850,000.

“Having won Best of Show here in 2009, the Voisin has established a permanent link with Amelia Island, and we are honored to present it as our cover lot at our inaugural Amelia Island Auction on March 12,” says David Gooding, president and founder of Gooding & Company. “Furthermore, we are very pleased to be having an auction at the Amelia Island Plantation, a venue that will reflect our high standards.”

Auction catalogues at the Amelia Island Auction cost $75 and admit two to the viewing and auction. General admission tickets can be purchased for $30 per person. Additional auction information, bidder registration forms, and press credentials are available at www.goodingco.com or by calling (310) 899-1960.

Amelia Island Plantation, Florida’s natural island destination, is nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Amelia River, just 29 miles northeast of Jacksonville International Airport. The cycling event brings together novice to advanced riders to raise funds and awareness for organ donation. Amelia Island Plantation will be offering a special rate of $149 in an ocean-view room (Friday, April 16 – Sunday, April 18) to Katie Ride participants and their friends and family.

“The decision to become an organ and tissue donor is very important,” says Kathleen Giery of LifeQuest Organ Recovery Services, the local organ donor program for northern Florida. We hope that through this event, we can not only provide donor education to the community, but also raise funds for future donor education campaigns.”

Lake Toxaway, NC – Catatoga has just released plans for its Legacy Park Townhomes. Located in a 308-acre resort community near Lake Toxaway, townhome ownership comes with access to all of the amenities this gated community has to offer, including fishing privileges on two miles of private trout stream and 22-acre Lake Catatoga.

The three customizable townhome plans now available include the Light Cahill, Quill Gordon, and Royal Coachman. Available models range in size from nearly 1,500 to 3,000 sq. ft. and showcase natural construction materials that blend seamlessly into the surrounding landscape. The homes feature stacked stone fireplaces, cedar shake siding and roofing, generous three foot overhangs for natural shading, and hardwood floors. Prices for these turnkey residences start at $387,000.

“The new Legacy Park Townhomes offering provides owners all the space and amenities of a single-family home without the upkeep that often comes with second home ownership,” says Steve Schneider, Merrill Trust Group’s Director of Sales and Marketing. “Sportsmen and women who want to enjoy a relaxing getaway fishing, hiking, swimming, and boating can do so at Catatoga for a reasonable price point.”

Nestled among stately hardwood and pine-covered mountains on a high plateau, Catatoga has two spectacular private waterfalls, a clubhouse with outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, fitness center, game room, bar and lounge, boathouse and dock, and miles of secluded hiking trails. The Outpost — including a general store, outfitters shop and Day Spa — is expected to open early next year.

Catatoga also provides additional outdoor recreational opportunities in the adjacent Gorges State Park and Pisgah National Forest. The community is within easy driving distance of the arts town of Brevard and shopping and dining in Highlands and Cashiers. Catatoga is located 45 minutes from Asheville, 2 ½ hours from Charlotte, and just under three hours from Atlanta.

Catatoga also offers fully furnished single-family homes starting at $595,000, and home sites are available for as little as $85,000. Private Residence Club memberships start at $125,000.

“We are very pleased with our performance this year, given the difficult
economic environment. One of our biggest strengths this year has been the
construction of several new custom homes for property owners. They’ve
recognized that The Headwaters is on secure footing and that building costs
are down, so they’ve taken advantage of this situation,” says developer John Haynes.

Including condos, cottages and custom homes, The Headwaters has 31 completed residences with another six under construction.

The Headwaters is also in the design stage for its new indoor pool facility. Construction funds were secured in November and construction should begin in the early spring. The pool will be located next to the clubhouse, enjoying a 20 mile view and will feature a movable wall of glass on the view side that can be opened up in the warmer months.

According to Haynes, The Headwaters will soon release for sale the new Lakeside Villas Town Homes. This neighborhood of 20 town homes will be situated overlooking the Upper Lake at The Headwaters with two town homes per building. These town homes will feature two and three bedroom plans plus attached garages. Prices are anticipated to start in the upper $300’s.

More than 500 party-goers gathered to toast the soon-to-be fourth clubhouse and enjoyed hors d’oeuvres, a wine bar and the opportunity to walk the future site. The Reserve Club golf professionals offered custom club fittings, a sidewalk sale and a 30-foot putting contest for prizes.

“The atmosphere at the ground breaking was festive and in roughly 18 months, we’ll be gathering for the grand opening celebration of a special clubhouse – built with our members in mind,” says Bill Schoettelkotte, vice president and project leader for the clubhouse. “It’s a testament to the continued commitment of the developers to further enhance over $100 million in completed amenities.”

The 24,000-square-foot clubhouse will feature private dining areas, an intimate wine room, a large dining room and screened dining porch, and a cozy bar. And, The Reserve Clubhouse will be the first LEED certified clubhouse in Southeastern North Carolina.

The building design is spearheaded by Principal Hugh Barrett Coyle, AIA, of Chapman Coyle Chapman Associates, a respected leader in club design. Founded in 1969, the firm’s world-class architectural talent is the ideal complement to the Reserve’s Nicklaus Design course. The Clubhouse is slated for completion in April 2011.

Through the tournament, The Reserve raised over $10,000, which will be donated to selected Pickens County charities through The Reserve at Lake Keowee’s Charitable Foundation. The tournament will become an annual event at The Reserve, with October 18, 2010 slated as next year’s date.

A total of 84 players took part in the tournament. Members of the winning team included Irv Harrington, Mike McHenry, David Brock and Alan Gall. Each contestant was registered to win a two-night stay in a Palmetto Dunes Resort Villa on Hilton Head Island, as well as one round of golf for four people. Local businesses that were unable to play in the tournament participated by sponsoring a hole with a $100 donation.

The money raised from this tournament will be used to enhance the charitable contributions given in 2010 by the new Reserve at Lake Keowee Charitable Foundation. The Charitable Foundation operates as a supporting organization for the philanthropic goals and intentions of The Reserve at Lake Keowee Community Foundation. Property owners suggest charities to receive donations. Each Reserve property owner will receive a ballot of area charities via email in February. The Trustees will give priority to the charities suggested by the results of the property owners’ ballots. The money raised from the golf tournament will be properly allocated to the chosen Pickens County charity in 2010.

Through this new partnership, eight prestigious builders, who all are Reserve members themselves, will soon be offering over twenty new home plans available in the Lake Keowee area exclusively at The Reserve.

“We’re excited to be working with these top builders and even more excited for the customer since these new home plans can provide them both a cost and time savings. Customers can also customize each plan giving them even more flexibility to match their tastes to their ideal homesite here at The Reserve,” said Chuck Pigg, VP and Community Manger of The Reserve.

The Reserve will feature these Builder Showcase home plans in an approved plan book complete with prices, which will ensure every part of the building process is as straightforward as possible. The book, which will contain a large variety of styles, designs, architectural features, sizes and prices, will be available soon at The Reserve real estate office.

“We collaborated with several quality architects to ensure that the homes would be well- designed and well-built. We are excited to make the home building process easier so that a client only has to pick out minor details and then can begin to enjoy the building process,” said Ken Berry of The Berry Group. “The Reserve has been great for our company. Both of our Pinnacle award-winning homes are located in The Reserve, as well as our first home. We have a strong connection to The Reserve and look forward to continuing the partnership with this new program.”

“This program is another reflection of The Reserve’s commitment to their property value,” said Jeff Holder of Jeff Holder Builders. “We have been working with The Reserve extensively for the last eight years and we are thankful to be a part of the program. It will be a great way to feature the work of our design team.”

Members of the Builder Showcase Program are: Scott Jerald, ASJ Development; Lee Hornbeck, Becklan Custom Home Builders; Bruce Adkins and Ron Tolley, Golden Corner Construction; Jeff Holder and Bobby Cummins, Jeff Holder Builders; Joe and Debbie Stroup, Joe Stroup, Inc; Ray Foral, Ridgeline Construction; Kevin Sexton and Barry Griffith, Sexton Griffith Custom Builders; and Ken Berry, The Berry Group.
